Managerial/Coaching Career
Begins his fifth season as the Hitting Coach of the Cleveland Indians, his 36th season in professional baseball, his 10th coaching at the Major League level...In his first season as Indians Hitting Coach in 2013, Cleveland's offense ranked fourth in runs (745) and walks (562) in the American League...In 2016, the Indians finished second in the A.L. in runs scored, increasing their runs scored total from 669 to 777...Was interim Major League Hitting Coach of the Houston Astros in 2012 from August 19th thru the end of the season...Prior to his interim stint in August, he served as the Hitting Coordinator in the Houston Player Development System in 2011-12...Was Bench Coach for the Seattle Mariners and Don Wakamatsu in 2009-2010 and was the Hitting Coach of the Oakland A's in 2007-08...Began his coaching career at Class A Lake Elsinore as a player/coach in 1996 in the Angels system before coaching in the Arizona Diamondbacks Player Development System for four seasons from 1997-2000...Was the Minor League Roving Hitting Instructor for the Anaheim Angels from 2001-2006 prior to joining the A's. 

Playing Career
Signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Milwaukee Brewers in 1981 ...Enjoyed a 15-year professional playing career, appearing in 14 Major League games in 1993 (California) and 1994 (Colorado) before transitioning to coaching in 1996...Played in Japan for five seasons from 1987-1991, leading the 1988 Seibu club to the Japan League title and earning Player of the Year honors (.268, 38HR, 93RBI)...Made MLB debut on July 28, 1993 ...Lone Major League HR came on August 16, 1993 off Detroit's Bill Gullickson.
