INDIANS 11, TIGERS 2
at Lakeland, Fla.
Saturday, March 3
Indians at the plate:
David Dellucci drove in three runs, two of them on a double in the fourth. Jason Michaels and Josh Barfield had two RBIs each, while Mike Rose scored twice and had an RBI double.
Tigers at the plate:
Craig Monroe opened the scoring with his first home run of the spring, a solo shot in the second inning. Neifi Perez added a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Indians on the mound:
Monroe's homer was the only run Jeremy Sowers allowed in his two innings before a succession of relievers kept Detroit off the scoreboard. Roberto Hernandez stranded the bases loaded in the third to thwart the Tigers' best chance at a comeback.
Tigers on the mound:
Nate Robertson opened his spring with two scoreless innings, escaping with runners at the corners in the second thanks to an inning-ending double play. Jason Grilli gave up the bulk of Cleveland's damage with nine runs, seven earned, in less than two innings. Edward Campusano pitched two scoreless innings.
Grapefruit League records:
Indians 2-1, Tigers 3-1.
The Tigers and Indians head to Winter Haven on Sunday for the tail end of this home-and-home series. Kenny Rogers will make his first start of the spring opposing C.C. Sabathia in a battle of contrasting lefties. Game time is 1:05 p.m. ET.
