Sowers strikes out four in Tribe win

Indians at the plate: A pair of catchers had big hits for the Indians. Victor Martinez, playing first base for the day, cranked out a pair of hits, including an RBI double in the first. Kelly Shoppach also had two hits, including an RBI single in the second. Mike Rouse knocked in a run with a single in the fourth.

Devil Rays at the plate: Elijah Dukes got the Rays on the board with his RBI double in the fifth. Jorge Cantu cranked out a two-run homer to left off Roberto Hernandez in the eighth.

Indians on the mound: Left-hander Jeremy Sowers made his first start in a Grapefruit League game since March 12. He had pitched a pair of Minor League games leading up to this outing, in which he lasted six innings, allowing just one run on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Jason Davis worked a scoreless seventh.

Devil Rays on the mound: Right-hander James Shields went seven innings, allowing four runs -- three earned -- on eight hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. He has now set a Rays spring record with 25 strikeouts in six starts.

Grapefruit League records: Indians 14-11-1; Rays 8-17-1.

Up next: The Indians head to Kissimmee, Fla., to face the Astros at 1:05 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Paul Byrd starts opposite Chris Sampson. The Rays travel to Dunedin to face the Blue Jays, also at 1:05. Left-hander Casey Fossum will start against right-hander Geremi Gonzalez.
