Tribe rallies fall short in loss to Astros

Indians at the plate: Casey Blake homered off Trever Miller in the seventh, a solo shot. Pat Osborn's two-run double off Chad Reineke tied the game at 5 in the ninth, and Luis Rivas' two-run homer in the 10th off Kevin Walker put the Indians ahead.

Astros at the plate: Morgan Ensberg knocked a solo homer in the first. Adam Everett's two-run single in the fourth contributed to a four-run frame. Brad Ausmus also contributed an RBI single. Humberto Quintero's three-run double in the 10th won it.

Indians on the mound: Starter Paul Byrd allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits with four walks and two strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings. He threw 84 pitches, 51 for strikes.

Astros on the mound: Starter Chris Sampson allowed one run on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts over five innings. He threw 61 pitches, 38 for strikes. Chad Qualls followed with one perfect inning, inducing three ground balls.

Grapefruit League records: Astros 15-10-1; Indians 14-12.

Up next: The Indians will host the Blue Jays on Wednesday at Chain Of Lakes Park, beginning at 1:05 p.m. ET. Left-hander C.C Sabathia will face Toronto lefty Gustavo Chacin. The Astros will travel to Tampa to play the Yankees Wednesday evening, beginning at 7:15 p.m. Right-hander Brian Moehler will start for the Astros. The Yankees will counter with righty Darrell Rasner.
