CHICAGO -- Catcher Victor Martinez left Thursday night's game against the White Sox in the middle of the fourth inning with an injury to his left index finger.
Martinez, who was 0-for-2 in two at-bats, was replaced by backup Kelly Shoppach.
After the game, manager Eric Wedge said the injury "wasn't baseball-related."
"The cuticle broke open, and he couldn't grip the bat," Wedge said. "We had to get him out of there. We're hoping to have him back in there [Friday]."
Martinez has just three hits in his last 27 at-bats. He is batting .300 with no home runs and 15 RBIs this season.
