Not that he'll be back with the Indians in the next day or two, but Carmona had a bullpen session Saturday that went well, manager Eric Wedge said.
And that's good news for Wedge, who's been without one of his top starters since the 24-year-old Carmona went on the disabled list May 24 with a strained left hip.
He's scheduled to throw a simulated game Monday, and then, if that game goes well, Carmona is headed for a rehab assignment.
Wedge didn't know where or when Carmona would do his rehab; nor did Wedge know how many rehab starts Carmona would make.
"Right now," Wedge said, "we're just committed to a couple, and we'll go from there."
However many starts he does make in the Minors, Carmona should be in pretty good shape in terms of his fitness for duty, Wedge said. While his pitch counts might not be what they were before the hip injury, Carmona shouldn't have a lot of limitations.
"We'll have a good idea of where he's at just depending on how his starts go," Wedge said.
