Rodriguez named Minor League Player of the Week
The Cleveland Indians today announced Lake County OF LUIGI RODRIGUEZ has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for April 23-29. The Player of the Week award recognizes an individual performance from within the Indians Player Development System and is announced each Tuesday during the Minor League season. All players from the Tribe's minor league affiliates are eligible for the weekly award.
Rodriguez, 19, appeared in 4 games during the week, batting .556 (10-18) with a triple, 2 HR and 5 RBI. He recorded a three-hit game in 3-of-the-4 games he appeared in and reached base at least twice in each of the 4 games. For the 2012 season, he is batting .349 (29-83) with 17 runs scored, 4 doubles, 3 triples, 2 HR and 13 RBI in 20 games (.944OPS). He is currently 2nd in the Midwest League in hitting (.349 AVG), tied for 2nd in triples (3), tied for 5th in runs (17) and 4th in slugging pct. (.542). Rodriguez currently has a 5-game hitting streak (.524 AVG, 11-21) and has 9 multi-hit games this season, including 5 three-hit games.
Rodriguez was signed as a non-drafted free-agent on September 30, 2009 out of the Dominican Republic. He entered the 2012 season as the #5 ranked prospect in the Indians organization according to Baseball America. In 2011, he split time between the AZL Indians and Lake County.
