CLEVELAND -- Former Indians manager and player Mike Hargrove will represent the team in Secaucus, N.J., on June 4 for the opening round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft.
Hargrove, who returned to the organization as a special adviser last year, will get to announce the Indians' picks after the first round. Hargrove also currently adds color commentary during Indians TV games broadcast on Sports Time Ohio.
Hargrove was the Indians first baseman from 1979-1985, and returned to the team as its manager from 1991-99. Hargrove, a member of the Indians Hall of Fame, led the Indians to five consecutive AL Central titles as manager in 1995-99, and World Series appearances in 1995 and 1997.
The annual First-Year Player Draft takes place this year from June 4-6, beginning with the first round and Comp Round A on Monday, June 4, at 7 p.m. ET. The first night of the event will be broadcast live on MLB Network and streamed live on MLB.com. Rounds 2-40 will also be streamed live on MLB.com on June 5-6.
Commissioner Allan H. "Bud" Selig will announce all of the first-round selections, but club representatives will step to the podium to announce compensation round picks. The Indians hold the 15th overall pick.
