Getting their 40-man roster in line, the Indians on Friday activated three pitchers from the disabled list and added a fourth off waivers.
Right-handers Carlos Carrasco and Josh Tomlin and lefty Rafael Perez all came off the 60-day disabled list and again count toward the 40-man roster. The Indians also added reliever Blake Wood, claiming him from the Royals off outright waivers.
The moves pushed Cleveland's 40-man total to 38.
A 27-year-old righty, Wood missed the 2012 season because of Tommy John surgery. He went for the procedure in late May, so he likely couldn't return to the Majors any sooner than May or June 2013. Before the surgery, his fastball sat at 95 mph.
In his two seasons in the Royals' bullpen, Wood had a 6-6 record, one save and a 4.30 ERA in 106 games and 119 1/3 innings. He was Kansas City's third-round pick in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.
