Indians announce 2013 player development staff assignments

|

The Cleveland Indians today announced the organizational staff alignment within the Player Development System for the upcoming season.

Two members of the 2012 Major League coaching staff will resume prominent roles within the system.  TOM WIEDENBAUER will again be the Field Coordinator, a role he began in 2011 before coaching first base and baserunning last season in Cleveland.  RUBEN NIEBLA will assume the role of organizational Pitching Coordinator after spending the last seven weeks of 2012 as Pitching Coach at the big league level.  ADAM EVERETT spent his first season off the field in 2012 as a Special Assistant to Baseball Operations and will become the Infield Coordinator in 2013 with TRAVIS FRYMAN shifting to a Special Assistant role.

The Tribe’s four full-season affiliates will feature different managers from the previous campaign, highlighted by CHRIS TREMIE’s elevation from Double-A Akron to Triple-A Columbus.  Also EDWIN RODRIGUEZ has moved from Single-A Carolina to Akron with DAVID WALLACE now leading the Mudcats after guiding the Single-A Lake County Captains in 2012.  Former Indian SCOOTER TUCKER, who was the Hitting Coach at Carolina in 2012, will be the skipper of the Lake County Captains this season.

Tremie, 43, led the Akron Aeros to the 2012 Eastern League title after guiding the club to a regular season record of 82-59 (.582). The native of Houston, Texas has managed in the Indians farm system since 2006 and is entering his 8th season in the organization after spending 2010-11 at Akron. TONY ARNOLD will be the Clippers Pitching Coach as he begins his 21st season as a coach in the Indians Player Development System while Hitting Coach PHIL CLARK returns for a second season.

Rodriguez, 52, spent his first season in the Player Development System at Single-A Carolina after guiding the Florida Marlins in 2010-11.  He is entering his 34th year in professional baseball.  Joining the Akron staff will be Hitting Coach JIM RICKON and Pitching Coach GREG HIBBARD.

Wallace, 33, enters his second year managing at the Minor League level after leading the Lake County Captains to a second half title and a regular season record of 71-68 in 2012.  Wallace was a staff assistant on the Major League staff in 2009-10 after the conclusion of his playing days. David will be assisted by Hitting Coach ROUGLAS ODOR and Pitching Coach JEFF HARRIS. This will be the second season of affiliation between the Carolina Mudcats and Cleveland Indians.

Tucker, 46, began his coaching career last year as the Carolina Hitting Coach under Rodriguez and enters his first season of managing at the Minor League level. The former Major League catcher will be assisted by TONY MANSOLINO (Hitting Coach) and former Indians reliever STEVE KARSAY (Pitching Coach).
