The Cleveland Indians today announced that Carolina INF JERRUD SABOURIN has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week, April 4-14. The Indians Player of the Week award recognizes an individual performance from within the Indians Player Development System and is announced each Tuesday through the end of the Minor League season.
Sabourin, 23, hit .438 (14-32) with 3 doubles and 3 RBI throughout the week, while posting a 1.070 OPS (.588 on-base pct./.531 slugging pct.). He recorded four multi-hit games throughout the first week of the season, including April 12 vs. Winston-Salem where he went 4-5 with a double, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Sabourin is currently leading the Carolina League in batting average (.438), ranks third in hits (14) and second in on-base percentage (.538).
Jerrud was originally signed by the Indians as a Minor League Free Agent on June 14, 2011. The 6-2, 210 San Diego, CA native finished 2012 T3rd in the Indians Player Development System in hits (140) and 9th in batting (.297). The left-handed hitting and throwing first baseman also finished among Midwest League leaders in hits (140, 5th) and batting (.297, 8th) as a member of the Lake County Captains.
