Lindor wins player of the week honors

The Cleveland Indians today announced Single-A Carolina INF FRANCISCO LINDOR has been named Indians Minor League Player of the Week, April 29-May 5.

Lindor, 19, hit .500 (13-26) over the span of 7 games and led all Carolina League players with a 1.321 OPS. He belted his first home run of the season in Game Two of a doubleheader at Potomac on April 30, and throughout the week, added 2 doubles, 4 RBI and 6 runs scored. On May 3 vs. Frederick, Lindor earned his first-career 4-hit performance, including his team-leading 4th triple. He is currently riding a 6-game hit streak and has reached base safely in 14 straight games via walk or hit dating back to April 21. Through 29 games this season, Lindor is batting .366 (4-112), which is second-best in the Carolina League and tops among all Indians farmhands.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound switch-hitting shortstop was originally a 1st round selection (8th overall) by the Indians in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft. He entered the season ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the entire Indians Player Development System according to MLB.com and the No. 2 prospect according to Baseball America. A native of Caguas, Puerto Rico, Lindor finished the 2012 season ranked 4th overall in the Indians Player Development System with 27 stolen bases and 1st in runs scored (83) and was selected to play for the World Team in the 2012-All-Star Futures Game in Kansas City.
