Indians sign C Matt Treanor to Minor League contract

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced that the club has signed free agent C MATT TREANOR to a Minor League contract with a non-roster invitation to Major League spring training camp.

Treanor, 37, has batted .221 (281-1272) with 45 doubles, 18 HR and 129 RBI in 468 career games across nine Major League seasons with Florida (2004-08), Detroit (2009), Texas (2010, 2011), Kansas City (2011) and Los Angeles-NL (2012) after being selected by the Royals in the fourth round of the 1994 June draft. He owns a career .989 (32 E/3047 TC) fielding pct. and has caught just over 27% (68 of 247) of runners attempting to steal. Treanor appeared in 4 games behind the plate during the Rangers' 2010 Postseason run, including Game 2 of the World Series against San Francisco. The Garden Grove, CA native last appeared in the Majors with the Dodgers in 2012 and spent the 2013 campaign recovering from a left knee procedure. He is married to Misty May-Treanor, a three-time Olympic gold medalist in volleyball.
