Indians place Murphy, Swisher on 15-day DL

The Cleveland Indians today announced the following transactions relative to the Major League roster:

Recalled OF TYLER HOLT (#62) & INF/OF ZACH WALTERS (#6) from AAA Columbus.

Placed OF DAVID MURPHY (right abdominal strain) & INF/OF NICK SWISHER (right knee soreness) on the 15-day Disabled List.

Holt, 25, is joining the Indians for the third time this season, as he had his contract purchased from Triple-A Columbus to make his Major League debut July 6-8 before being recalled again Aug. 1-5. Holt appeared in one game during each of those two previous stints (0-1, HBP). The right-handed hitting outfielder has combined to hit .306 (106-346) with 19 doubles, one triple, 2 home runs, 29 RBI and 31 steals in 97 games for Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus. Since being promoted to the Clippers on May 26, Holt is hitting .311 (69-222) with an .826 OPS and 20 steals in 58 games.

Walters, 24, was acquired from Washington on July 31 in exchange for SS Asdrubal Cabrera and has combined to hit .310 (83-268) with 22 doubles, 5 triples, 17 home runs and 56 RBI in 67 games for Triple-A affiliates Syracuse (Nationals) and Columbus (Indians) this season. At the time of the trade, Walters was a member of Washington's 25-man roster and has seen big league time with the Nationals in each of the last 2 seasons (2013-14), batting .234 (11-47) with one double, one triple, 3 home runs and 6 RBI in 40 games. Since being optioned to the Clippers upon joining the Cleveland organization, Walters has batted .387 (12-31) with 4 doubles, 2 home runs and 8 RBI across 7 games. The switch-hitter has seen action at three different infield positions (2B, SS, 3B) as well as in left field.
