Please note that the Cleveland Indians have selected the contract of C CHRIS GIMENEZ from Triple-A Columbus; Gimenez (#53) was acquired yesterday from the Texas Rangers and will be in uniform for this afternoon's series finale against Houston. Cleveland now has 38 players on the club's 40-man roster.
Gimenez, 31, has split the 2014 season between Texas and Triple-A Round Rock, hitting .262 (28-107) with 10 doubles, 11 RBI and 13 runs scored in 34 games for the Rangers from May 20 until being taken off the roster on August 7. He started behind the plate in 12 of Yu Darvish's 22 starts for Texas in 2014. He started campaign and spent the last ten days in Round Rock where he hit .284 (38-134) with 4 2B, 2 3B, 6HR & 22 RBI in 39 games, including a .302 (13-43, 1.024OPS) mark off left-handed pitching.
The Gilroy, CA native returns to the Indians organization after beginning his pro career with the club in 2004 (19th round, Nevada-Reno), spending a combined 73 games at the Major League level in 2009-2010. He spent the 2012-13 seasons in the Tampa Bay organization between Durham & St. Pete.
