CLEVELAND -- Justin Masterson felt pretty good about the way his last outing progressed, and he's going to have a couple extra days to reflect on it. The Indians will shift their rotation slightly, coming out of Thursday's off-day. Masterson will be pushed back a day to Saturday, while David Huff will be bumped up to the No. 3 spot of the rotation and start the series opener against the Tigers. The move was made to separate Masterson and Fausto Carmona, who both rely primarily on a mid-90s sinker, in future turns in the rotation. "It's one of those moves that can't hurt," Masterson said. "I haven't been throwing strikes to the best of my ability [this season], but I thought it started to click that last time out."
Masterson took a no-decision against the Twins on Saturday after giving up four runs on 10 hits with a walk and seven strikeouts over 7 2/3 innings. It was his longest outing of the season, and he showed encouraging signs in a 5 2/3-inning stretch in which he didn't give up a run. With the extra break between starts, Masterson said he threw a bullpen session Monday and was set to throw another Wednesday.
